Inspiration

We were inspired by stories of injustice—not due to a lack of law, but a lack of access. From migrant workers who don’t understand their contracts to students unaware of their rights, we realized the law is often locked behind language, jargon, or expensive gatekeepers. With the rise of AI and legal-tech, we saw an opportunity to bridge this gap.

What it does

Lawspark AI is an intelligent legal assistant built for India that empowers users to: • 🔍 Get Instant Legal Answers Ask questions and receive accurate, AI-powered responses grounded in Indian laws using a RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipeline. • 📄 Understand Legal Documents Upload contracts, agreements, or notices and get AI-generated summaries, clause highlights, and legal risk insights. • 🗣️ Access Law in Your Language Multilingual support (planned via Lingo) makes legal help accessible to users in their native Indian languages. • 🎓 Learn Legal Rights & Processes A legal literacy chatbot answers common questions like “How to file an FIR?” or “What are tenant rights?” in simple, conversational language. • 💬 Chat Naturally With AI Powered by Google Gemini, users can get context-aware responses, draft legal notices, or understand legal terms with ease. • 📱 Mobile-Friendly Interface A clean, responsive design ensures that even users with basic smartphones can access justice on the go.

How we built it

Frontend: React + TypeScript with Tailwind CSS for a clean, responsive UI. • AI Integration: • RAG Pipeline for grounded legal answers using Indian law documents. • Google Gemini API for natural-language responses and drafting help. • Document Insights: Users can upload contracts or notices for AI-powered summaries and clause review (Pica planned). • Multilingual Readiness: Integrated translation/localization support via Lingo, targeting major Indian languages. • Hosting & Infra: Deployed on Netlify, integrated with Supabase for backend operations and secure API handling.

Challenges we ran into

• Legal data structure: Indian laws are long, complex, and hard to parse. Structuring them for retrieval was a major challenge.
• API integration: Google Gemini key validation and rate limits slowed testing.
• Multilingual complexity: Supporting diverse regional languages with contextual accuracy required careful prompt engineering.
• UX for trust: Designing a UI that felt “legally credible” but still friendly and approachable was key.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Lawspark AI was born out of a simple but powerful belief: legal advice shouldn’t be a luxury — it should be a right. In India, millions face legal challenges daily but lack the resources, literacy, or access to navigate the justice system. We set out to change that.

Our vision was to build an AI-powered legal assistant tailored for Bharat — multilingual, mobile-friendly, and grounded in real Indian laws. Whether someone needs help understanding their rights, reviewing a contract, or seeking clarity on legal processes, Lawspark is their smart legal ally.

What we learned

How to implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation in a real-world legal use case. • Importance of designing for trust when dealing with sensitive domains like law. • How to integrate and balance multiple APIs (Gemini, Pica, Lingo, Supabase) in one cohesive product. • That impactful tech isn’t about flashy features — it’s about solving real problems for real people.
