Inspiration
The inspiration for Lava Escape came from classic platform games that I loved as a child. I was particularly fascinated by the idea of navigating through perilous environments and overcoming obstacles.
What it does
The concept of lava as a constant threat added urgency and excitement to the gameplay. I wanted to create a game that not only challenged players' skills but also kept them on the edge of their seats.
How we built it
The first step involved brainstorming ideas and drafting a game design document. I focused on defining the core mechanics, and level progression.
Challenges we ran into
Encountered bugs in physics calculations, which required extensive debugging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Conducted multiple playtesting sessions to gather valuable feedback, allowing for improvements in gameplay and mechanics.
What we learned
Throughout the development of Lava Escape, I learned several key skills:
- Game Design Fundamentals: Understanding game mechanics, level design, and player psychology.
- Programming Skills: Gained proficiency in game development languages, particularly Typescript
- Asset Creation: Had to learn about graphic design to create appealing and immersive game assets.
- User Experience: Learned how critical it is to gather feedback and iterate on designs based on player experiences.
What's next for Lava Escape
I am proud of the final product and excited to share it with players. I hope to add more maps and a shop in the future for this game !
