Inspiration
We like E&M so we wrote an E&M simulation code.
What it does
Physics simulations of n-body problems in E&M
How we built it
We defined particle and mesh objects and used the Cloud in Cell algorithm to compute the density, FFT to solve Poisson's equation and leapfrog to update the particle velocities and positions
Challenges we ran into
Finding reference material to solve Poisson's equation using FFT that was at a level adaptable for computer codes in less than 36 hours.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The simulation results look really cool. #Dataisbeautiful
What we learned
We learned a lot about particle-mesh methods and development.
What's next for Laurel and Matt's Particle Mesh Simulator. It's pretty neat
Adding polynomial interpolation for the density so particles aren't captured on grid points as fast.
