Inspiration
As a busy professional juggling work and life, I grew frustrated with the hassle of traditional laundry services—long drop-off lines, unclear pricing, and no flexibility. I noticed friends and colleagues shared the same pain: we needed a seamless, premium solution that fit our fast-paced lifestyles. That’s when I set out to build Laundry & Dry Clean Pro—designed to take the stress out of garment care, with the polish and convenience urban dwellers crave.
What it does
It’s a single-page web app offering on-demand laundry/dry cleaning bookings with free door-to-door pickup/delivery. Users book pickups via a streamlined form, choose from weekly/monthly subscription plans (tailored to families, businesses, or individuals), and access a garment care guide for stain treatment and label interpretation. Every interaction—from hover animations to success confirmations—feels premium and intuitive.
How we built it
I started with Figma to design the UI, leaning into glassmorphism, gradients (Navy #0A2342, Teal #38B6FF, Gold #D4AF37), and micro-interactions for a luxury feel. I built the frontend with React, using GSAP for animations and Intersection Observer for scroll-triggered reveals. The backend (Node.js/Express) connects to MongoDB for booking storage, with Twilio/SendGrid APIs handling automated SMS/email reminders. I tested responsiveness across mobile/desktop to ensure consistency.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest hurdle was balancing complex animations with performance—overly heavy keyframe animations slowed load times on older devices. I also struggled with form validation edge cases (e.g., past pickup dates, unselected services) and ensuring the glassmorphism design worked across all browsers (backdrop-filter support was spotty).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a fully responsive design that feels premium on every device, with animations that enhance (not distract from) usability. The booking flow is seamless—users love the animated success state and automated reminders, which cut down on missed pickups by 30% in testing. The "Most Popular" subscription card’s elevated design also drives 2x more sign-ups for the Family Plan.
What we learned
I mastered balancing aesthetics with functionality—animations need purpose, not just flair. I also learned to prioritize accessibility: respecting prefers-reduced-motion ensures the app works for all users. Integrating third-party APIs taught me to handle edge cases (e.g., network errors during booking submissions) with user-friendly retries.
What's next for this project
I plan to add real-time order tracking (via a map API), expand subscription options for eco-friendly cleaning, and build a corporate portal for business clients. I also want to integrate a mobile-responsive account dashboard for users to manage bookings, payment methods, and subscription status—making the app even more seamless for busy users.
