Inspiration
Many startup ideas fail because people start building before knowing whether the problem is real, the audience exists, or competitors already solve it. We wanted to create a simple platform that encourages founders to pause, validate, and make informed decisions before investing time and resources. This inspired us to build LaunchPad around the idea: “Don’t build first. Validate first.”
What it does
LaunchPad helps users explore and validate startup ideas before building them. Users can search and filter ideas by category, view community upvotes and validation scores, explore an idea in detail, and use a mock AI validation feature to see feasibility, strengths, risks, recommended next steps, and potential competitors. The platform brings these insights together in one simple workflow so founders can decide whether to build, improve, or rethink an idea.
How we built it
We built LaunchPad as a lightweight frontend application using React and Vite, with React Router and CSS for navigation and UI design. Since this is a hackathon MVP, we used static and mock data instead of a backend or external AI API. The interface was designed with a modern dark-mode startup aesthetic, responsive layouts, reusable components, idea cards, search and category filters, and an interactive mock AI validation experience.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was keeping the project simple while still making it feel like a complete product. We had to design a convincing AI validation experience without relying on a real AI API or backend. We also focused on making the search, filtering, navigation, validation results, and competitor information feel connected rather than like separate features. Creating a polished and responsive interface while working within a short hackathon timeline was another challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of turning a simple concept into a complete interactive product experience. LaunchPad has a clear user journey from discovering an idea to validating it and checking its competition. We also created a populated idea hub with multiple startup ideas, interactive search and filters, community validation, AI-style insights, and a clean modern interface. Most importantly, the project communicates its core message clearly: validate an idea before spending months building it.
What we learned
We learned that building a useful product is not only about adding more features. A strong user flow and clear problem-solution relationship can make a simple MVP much more effective. We also learned how to structure a React application using reusable components, manage navigation between pages, create interactive frontend features, and design an experience that feels like a real-world startup product.
What's next for LaunchPad
The next step is to turn LaunchPad from a frontend prototype into a fully functional validation platform. We plan to add a real AI validation engine, user accounts, a backend and database, real-time community voting and discussions, and more advanced competitor analysis. We also want to introduce market research, trend analysis, validation history, and personalized recommendations so founders can make better decisions before committing to an idea.
