Inspiration
As students, we've always struggled to catch up on lectures that we've missed. The thought of going through hours of recorded lectures seemed daunting and time-consuming. That's when we got inspired to build a project that could help students catch up on missed lectures more efficiently.
What it does
We decided to build a system that takes the transcript of a lecture and provides four key features:
Summarization: Generate a summary of the lecture, providing an overview of the key points discussed.
Announcement Extraction: Extract important announcements made during the lecture, providing relevant information to students who missed the lecture.
Outline: Provide an outline of the lecture, allowing students to easily navigate the content.
Quiz Generation: Generate a quiz based on the lecture, testing students' understanding and knowledge.
How we built it
To build this project, we used React for the front end, Django for the backend, and Cohere APIs for natural language processing.
Challenges we ran into
While building the project, we faced challenges with handling CORS tokens, but we had a lot of fun during the hackathon.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Completing the project in a limited amount of time
What we learned
One of the things we learned during this project was how powerful natural language processing could be in extracting useful information from text. With the help of Cohere APIs, we were able to extract important announcements, generate a summary, provide an outline, and create a quiz based on the lecture.
What's next for LastMinuteAI
Overall, we believe that our project has the potential to revolutionize the way students catch up on missed lectures. Instead of spending hours going through recordings, they can use our system to get a quick summary, important announcements, an outline of the lecture, and even a quiz to test their understanding. We're excited to see how this project can be further developed and used in the education industry, and how natural language processing can continue to open up many possibilities.
