Last Call was inspired by the large amount of food waste generated by vendors and the need for more affordable food options for consumers, especially students. Our application allows vendors to post discounted food near the end of the day so it can be sold instead of thrown away, while users can browse nearby deals in real time and purchase items at a lower cost. We built the platform to show relevant deals, supported by a backend that manages listings and updates.
One challenge we faced was handling real time changes in food availability while keeping the experience quick and easy for users, along with balancing flexibility for vendors and consistency in design. Additionally, it was a challenge figuring out whether to add certain features within the time constraint.
We are proud of creating a functional product that addresses a real world problem and connects supply with demand in a meaningful way. Through this project, we learned how to design with both impact and usability in mind, work with dynamic data, and collaborate effectively under time pressure. Moving forward, we plan to implement many new features while additionally, expanding Last Call to other campus and local businesses.
