Inspiration
Last Bastion was inspired by the idea of combining active hero combat with fortress building in a single gameplay loop. The concept evolved further from a simple question: what if the enemy learned from the player's strategy?
What it does
Last Bastion is a mobile action-strategy game where players defend and expand a fortress while battling enemy hordes that evolve in response to player decisions. Players strengthen both their hero and fortress throughout each run, creating a highly replayable experience.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest design challenge was balancing strategic depth with accessibility. Enemy adaptations needed to feel like intelligent responses to player behavior rather than unfair difficulty spikes, while fortress building needed to remain meaningful without overwhelming players with complexity.
What I learned
This project reinforced the importance of building around a small number of strong design pillars. By keeping every major system focused on Hero Combat, Fortress Growth, and Adaptive Enemy Evolution, the overall design remained cohesive and easy to expand.
