Inspiration

Last Band on Earth was inspired by my love of music. I wanted music to be more than a theme, so I made it the power that keeps the band alive against vampires.

What It Does

Last Band on Earth is a mobile survival and resource management game built around:

Scavenge → Craft → Survive → Repeat

By day, Ace gathers Batteries, Scrap, and Amp Parts before sunset. At night, the band performs while Ace fights vampires with his guitar. Survive until sunrise to save fans, unlock venues and new crafting recipes, and prepare for harder nights.

How We Built It

The prototype was built with AI tools using an iterative prompting process. I started with design documents, playthrough notes, and visual references, then continuously playtested and refined the game with more specific prompts and feedback.

Challenges We Ran Into

The biggest challenge was keeping the AI consistent as the project became more complex. We also worked through issues with combat balance, controls, onboarding, UI readability, enemy behavior, and difficulty progression.

Accomplishments That We Are Proud Of

I’m proud that the prototype became a complete day-to-night survival loop with scavenging, crafting, combat, progression, multiple venues, different enemies, and a boss battle.

I’m especially proud that the systems all support the theme: music can save the world!

What We Learned

The biggest lesson was that better context creates better AI results. Vague prompts gave functional but generic results, while specific instructions and references brought the game much closer to my vision.

I also learned how important playtesting is for improving onboarding, pacing, controls, and clarity.

What's Next for Last Band on Earth

Next, I’d like to add more levels, venues, enemies, crafting upgrades, and boss battles. Future versions could also let players choose any band member, each with unique abilities.

I’d also like to improve the graphics, animations, progression, and add a fully original rock soundtrack.
