The development of AI Autofill Custom Fields for Jira was driven by the need to streamline information gathering and data entry processes within Jira. How we built it

To make the solution intuitive and seamlessly integrated into existing workflows, we introduced it as custom fields within Jira, enabling users to harness AI directly in the context of their work without switching environments. Along the way, we experimented with various AI models and processing pipelines, continuously refining the tool to deliver high-quality outputs tailored to diverse use cases. This journey of iteration and user-centered design allowed us to create a solution that truly empowers teams to work smarter.

Challenges we ran into

One of our primary challenges was ensuring that AI-generated content was both accurate and contextually relevant. Balancing flexibility with simplicity was another hurdle, as we aimed to design a solution that could cater to diverse use cases without adding unnecessary complexity. Ensuring data privacy and security while processing information through AI was a constant consideration, requiring careful handling of Jira data. Additionally, we faced the challenge of providing a better editor experience, allowing users to treat content as an artifact and update only the required parts efficiently. The limitations of the current Forge platform, particularly in terms of rich text editing capabilities and the flexibility of custom fields, also posed constraints that required creative problem-solving. Finally, integrating the tool seamlessly into Jira without disrupting existing workflows posed its own technical and design challenges.
