Inspiration
We always wondered why the clothing industry isn't automized like so many other major businesses, so we decided to create out own shirt-making robot!
What it does
Our robot laser cuts and sews fabric together to make clothes, particularly t shirts, completely autonomously.
How we built it
We used the Harvard Nectar grand to purchase a laser cutter assembly and then hacked a sewing machine to be able to control it from an Arduino.
Challenges we ran into
We found it very difficult to complete such an ambitious project in so little time, we specially the calibration/code.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we completed all of the hardware aspects of our endeavor.
What we learned
We learned that it's important to scarifice certain aspects of a project to make it somewhat successful, as well as that coding is a huge bulk of electronics and robotics calibration.
What's next for Laser Wear
We look forward to building a better and more effective version of the robot in the near future.
