Inspiration

We were inspired by the game BitLife, and the financial tool Investly. We liked how interactive BitLife was and how it considered pop up events, and made real-world events fun and engaging. Additionally, we also liked how Investly could guide the user to make better financial decisions and simplify investing knowledge. Life and Risk Playground (LARP) thus incorporates both the fun and engaging element of BitLife, as well as the educational and practical factor of Investly.

What it does

This platform drops the user in a fictional, financial simulation where they can make choices regarding their finances. This includes opening bank accounts, making investments, and so on. With the help of open-source libraries, elements such as the investments feature simulate real-world market data to make the simulation feel more realistic. This overall provides a fun but educational way for young adults to learn about their next steps in the financial world, and allows them to make mistakes with no consequence.

How we built it

We used Figma to structure the design, layout, and flow of the app. We also used Data Twelve API to have the app respond to stock investments. To help with merging conflicts and putting changes together, Codex was used to help implement all those changes together. We found 3-D object libraries, including Poly Pizza, and incorporated that into our house upgrades on the right panel. We also used Twelve Data API to request real market data from the past.

Challenges we ran into

We had difficulties delegating tasks evenly without encountering merge conflicts or uneven workload. We also initially had difficulties incorporating and API into a finance model.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of our growth and how we accomplish so much in such a little time. We really challenged ourselves to understand the technical components and add more advanced features. Especially building the 3D house upgrading feature. It helped make our code more more fun and engaging.

What we learned

We learned how to use GitHub and also the basic structure of app design. We also learned how to collaborate on single app. Working through challenges collectively but also effectively. We also learned how to utlize agents and resources online.

What's next for LARP: Live & Risk Playground

We plan to integrate more features, like adding more decision prompts. Creating more customization for the user depending on their skill. And advancing the financial knowledge the app teaches user.
