Inspiration

Imagine a world where learning a new language is not only a passion but also an opportunity for everyone. We believe in the transformative power of language and the profound impact it can have on individuals and communities. Our inspiration comes from the diverse aspirations of language learners who are eager to explore new cultures, connect with people from around the globe, and broaden their horizons. We recognize that not everyone has equal access to language learning resources. That's why we've made it our mission to break down barriers and create a platform that empowers individuals, regardless of their income, to embark on their language learning journey.

What it does

Our prototype features two AI personalities Laura and Jürgen. Both represent communication partners with different backgrounds and a passion for learning different languages. They can choose a language level that suits them. Which challenges you and at the same time does not overwhelm you. If vocabulary or grammar is used that the user does not understand, it can be explained automatically or saved in a vocabulary list. All in all we present our Users a System that helps them practicing their language skills in a natural way

How we built it

Prototyping We used Figma for prototyping to design the user interface, with the Material Design 3

Frontend To Display our Features, we implemented a Web App, with the Flutter Framework. We decided that this is the easiest way to develop and make available the System to everybody.

Backend Our Web App communicates with our Backend, which is implemented in the Node.js Express Framework. To Safe the consumer Data we used Firebase.

AI We used Chat GPT 3.5 Turbo as our Large Language Model. For our use Case it was the easiest way to get the best results. To customise the answers we used the LangChain Model.

Challenges we ran into

We have tried to concentrate our efforts on the best and most efficient results. Some of us attended a hackathon for the first time. Therefore we needed time to focus on the important things of the project and to complete it successfully.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We all spent this hackathon learning new things and internalising different concepts in the areas of AI, backend development and fronted development. We supported each other and grew into a good team during this time, so that we can now all celebrate this success.

What we learned

We have learned how quickly and easily complex systems can be developed using a large language model and that we can realise our ideas no matter what our level of knowledge is.

What's next for LaPa

For us, it is clear that we want to develop LaPa further into a system that is developed efficiently and, above all, only with open source connections. The ecological footprint is important to us in this respect and we want to pay even more attention to this in further development.
