Language Hero

Inspiration

Language Hero was born out of a desire to create a more immersive, conversational way for language learners to practice and improve their skills. Inspired by the challenges of traditional language learning methods, which often lack real-world conversational practice, we wanted to leverage the power of conversational AI to create an interactive, engaging learning experience.

What it does

Language Hero allows users to practice a new language by engaging in conversations with a conversational Large Language Model (LLM) that speaks back. The platform simulates real-life interactions, providing users with a safe, judgment-free zone to practice speaking, listening, and comprehension skills in their target language.

How we built it

We built Language Hero using advanced AI and machine learning technologies, including Large Language Models (LLMs) for natural language understanding and generation. We integrated speech recognition and text-to-speech services to enable fluid voice interactions.

Challenges we ran into

It took longer than expected to complete, costing us a lot of sleep at the end. However, it was well worth it. We also were not able to polish as much as we had hoped because getting everything working properly was so difficult.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of creating a platform that provides a novel, effective way for language learners to practice and improve their skills. We really think this could be a fantastic way to practice a language for use in real life scenarios.

What we learned

We learned how to create an interactive app using Speech to Text and Text to speech. We also learned how to integrate a lot of APIs to create a really useful app.

What's next for Language Hero

We plan on adding more languages, even symbolic languages like Chinese and Japanese. We also plan on adding a pro version that allows unlimited messages as a way to monetize. We will also add a landing page, make the UI more user-friendly, and market it on TikTok as well.
