Inspiration
My inspiration of this project came from my vacation in Quebec, where my family found it very difficult to understand the language.
What it does
My application idea looks to simplify the issue, as when speak a sentence or phrase it will automatically change it to user's preferred language.
How we built it
My idea is to build this application using two different APIs. The first API - one of the sponsors of Assembly AI API, to record the speech into a text-format. The second API - Google cloud API, in order to change the language of the text to the selected language of the user.
Challenges we ran into
One of the challenges faced was to implement a API in my code, as before I did no such thing.Another challenge was not being able to access the data in the APIs, for example in google cloud and the assembly AI. Even with the credit given, it was not accessible in the place where I live, so leading to more challenges during the hackaton.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud to come up with an idea, that might help the world
What we learned
In my first hackaton, I learned what mean to spend hours upon hours on project, an environment which I was not familiar before. I also learned how to implement APIs into a python code, which I am most proud is the that I trying to implement such a complex software as a high school student.
What's next for Language Barrier Breaker
Something next for the translator is to implement it in many information centers and tourist attractions to help the public understand the language of the place, without the help of an in-person translator. These translators will be designed to answer in the preferred language on demand. That means, while a person speaks the application will automatically answers in the user's preferred language.
