Inspiration

Our project was inspired by one of our teammates, who is an international student in the process of strengthening her English and Spanish skills. Having a VR game where she could build her vocabulary would have been a fun way to get better at English and Spanish, so we sought to create this game.

What it does

Our project is a language learning game that develops a user's vocabulary in a different language through a fun and immersive experience. Users learn by shooting objects that correspond to the matching word on a bullet to build strong connections between words and their meaning.

How we built it

First, we brainstormed what we wanted to do and strategized how we wanted to achieve it. Next, we created several different scenes where each of us implemented different things. One person worked on creating different vocabulary objects and bullets, another configured the technology to connect with Unity and move around the scene, another set up the game and vocabulary generator, and the other teammate configured the game scene (ex: adding colliders). Throughout the process, we used our strong collaboration and teamwork skills to build a cohesive game that is enjoyable to the user.

Challenges we ran into

Connecting the technology to Unity, figuring out .gitignore files, version control, merging files, creating moving objects

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Getting a project to work within a short amount of time and learning lots of Git version control along the way. We also learned a lot about VR and how to implement a VR project since we are all very new to VR.

What we learned

We learned how to use Unity and strengthened our VR skills, as none of our teammates had a lot of experience with VR.

What's next for Lang Shot

Creating a point system and timer system to make the game more fun, adding more objects within the game to expand on the vocabulary
