Inspiration

Every day, freight fleets lose money at the exact moment a load meets a truck—not on the open highway. Dispatchers eyeball a board, assign the "closest" truck, and move on. What's missing is the hidden cost of that decision: empty miles burned, deadlines risked, and maintenance invited three weeks down the line. We built Lanewise.ai to prove that fleet profitability isn't lost on the road—it's lost at the moment of assignment.

What it does

Lanewise.ai is an AI command center that scores every available truck against every load using six weighted factors:

  • Proximity & Capacity
  • Deadline Pressure
  • Cost Efficiency
  • Driver Hours (HOS)
  • Reliability & Predictive Maintenance

Instead of operating as a black box, Lanewise.ai gives dispatchers ranked recommendations with full transparency into the underlying math. It features an AI Copilot that dispatchers can query in plain English, predicts delays before they occur, and re-sequences routes to avoid rush-hour congestion.

Our built-in Demo Mode takes a live load, compares a traditional dispatcher's manual choice against Lanewise's AI recommendation under identical constraints, and highlights the immediate dollar savings generated.

How we built it

We built Lanewise.ai as a full-stack end-to-end platform:

  • Frontend: Interactive Kanban dispatch board and live fleet tracking interface.
  • Backend & Analytics: Predictive decision engine scoring multi-variable constraints in real time.
  • Driver Mobile App: Live route sync and driver telemetry updates.
  • Simulation Engine: Built-in live GPS simulation to model real-world traffic and dispatch scenarios dynamically.

Challenges we faced

Balancing complex multi-factor scoring (HOS regulations, vehicle maintenance schedules, dynamic traffic) with instant feedback for dispatchers was our biggest hurdle. We had to ensure the AI recommendations didn't feel like rigid orders, but rather transparent, actionable insights that build trust with human dispatchers.

What we learned

We learned that the key to AI adoption in logistics isn't full automation—it's explainability. Showing dispatchers why a decision saves money makes all the difference between an unused dashboard and an indispensable copilot.

What's next for Lanewise.ai

  • Integrating real-time IoT telematics for live vehicle diagnostics.
  • Expanding driver-side AI features for automated load status check-ins.
  • Multi-fleet collaboration to eliminate backhaul empty miles across independent logistics networks. ## Challenges we ran into
