Imagine a world where communities can predict and mitigate the devastating impact of landslides before they occur. This AI algorithm makes it possible to detect landslides using machine learning.

Inspiration

After facing the extreme consequences of landslide while traveling to Chitwan, we realized how it affected everyone there. We designed this prototype to make it easier for travelers as well as locals of landslide prone zone.

What it does

It uses a _ high tech AI algorithm _ to predict landslides using past data. It can alert and aware the local people about the oncoming landslide. It can also help reduce the high mortality rate caused by landslides every year. To sum it up, it can connect local bodies to local government and further to the road department.

How we built it

Firstly, we extracted a local dataset and trained a machine learning model based on those provided dataset. We then built a front end web app using _ Streamlit _ and made it user friendly.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge we initially ran into was finding the dataset which was later solved as one of our teammates connected us with someone that provided us with it. Then we ran into a problem in our code as our _ Streamlit _ was not working. We asked our mentors for help and finally solved this problem as well.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The main accomplishment we're proud of is our project. We were able to come out of our comfort zone and participate in this event. Our team collaboration and diversity also encouraged us in many aspects and one motivated the other.

What we learned

We learned many things from various people throughout the program. Our mentors played a very important role in teaching us the requirements for this project. We faced challenges during the making of this prototype and were helped by many mentors as well as our fellow participants. Also, we learned how to cooperate and compromise with one another and build up our team diversity. We learnt various features and new methodologies too.

What's next for PahiroAI

PahiroAI, if implemented in large scale can benefit various people. It can potentially save people's lives. The next step for PahiroAI is to receive resources, funding and much research. Once provided, PahiroAI can do greater things for sustainable development.
