Inspiration
I wanted a quick and easy way for people to learn the history behind landmarks just by using the photos they already take while traveling.
What it does
You upload a picture of a historical landmark, and the app identifies it and instantly gives you a short, accurate history plus fun facts.
How we built it
I used Google Build AI and Gemini. The AI analyzes the image, identifies the landmark, and generates a clean historical summary using structured prompts.
Challenges we ran into
Avoiding long or inaccurate responses Making the output simple and reliable Testing different types of landmark photos
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I built a working AI tool that can recognize landmarks from images and explain their history in seconds, all within a short hackathon timeframe.
What we learned
I learned how to work with Gemini, improve prompt engineering, handle image-to-text AI workflows, and simplify user experience design.
What's next for Landmark Lens
Add translations (Swahili, Arabic, etc.) Improve accuracy with a larger landmark dataset
