Inspiration

Moving abroad for university means the small stuff is confusing, not the big stuff, and answers are often scattered across group chats instead of in one trusted place.

What it does

Landed gives international students at BTH (first) one AI-guided app for arrival guides, local deals, housing knowledge, city events, and connecting with other students.

How we built it

Kotlin and Jetpack Compose on Android, Supabase for auth and data, and an on-device Gemma 3n AI companion with tool calling and server-side retrieval.

Challenges we ran into

Getting reliable tool calling out of a phone-sized model, and cutting our own feature list from seven ideas down to five we could actually get right.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A genuinely useful AI companion running fully on-device, and holding scope tight enough to ship something real instead of something sprawling.

What we learned

That trust and curation matter more than feature count, and a small app used by real students teaches you more than a big one used by nobody.

What's next for Landed.

Prove the loop in Karlskrona, then repeat the same template city by city, adding housing, transport, and money features once trust is earned.
