Inspiration
This project was inspired by my experiences of the first weeks here at Lancaster Uni. Finding new friends can be challenging at any new institution, especially when you are far from home (200+ miles in my case). Ultimately we bond with people who share common interests, like entering hackathons, or personal charactersitics. Not everyone finds settling into Uni social life easy, that's where the Lancaster University Friendship Union (LUFU) app is here to help.
How it Works - A Guide for the User
LUFU allows users enter a number of details about themselves. LUFU then filters other student's profiles based on different parameters to help find users like-minded friends and help them settle into Uni life.
How LUFU was built and Development Challenges
LUFU was built using Python and TkInter (to provide the GUI). The main challenge faced was getting to grips with the TKInter library, particularly the syntax, overcoming this challenge was necessary as LUFU would have otherwise been a text-based app and ultimately unappealing to its users. I have learnt how to work with this new library and hope to put it to use again in future projects and hackathons to produce appealing GUIs.
