Inspiration / Problem

LANA / لنا aims to make digital learning more inclusive for students with intellectual disabilities and different educational needs. Educational content and conventional digital platforms may not adapt well to different learning abilities, creating barriers to participation and independence.

What existed before CSC

LANA had a pre-existing foundation before this hackathon. Its earlier code, design and platform functionality were the starting point for our CSC work. The attached video, published on April 9, 2026, demonstrates that earlier version. We are not claiming that the entire platform was created during CSC.

What LANA does

The earlier demonstration shows visual and interactive learning activities, educational games, text-to-speech and activities related to everyday concepts and skills. Its Safari environment combines exploration with tasks, achievements, points and rewards. It also shows AI-supported activities, including drawing evaluation, and tools for families to follow a learner's activity and progress. These belong to the existing foundation; they are not presented as entirely new CSC features.

What we improved during CSC

During the CSC development period, our team continued developing the existing platform:

  • Refactored, cleaned and improved the codebase.
  • Added and improved payment/subscription functionality for the platform's plans, using PayPal.
  • Further developed, tested and refined the AI functionality.
  • Modified and improved frontend pages.
  • Improved the user-facing experience and UI through those frontend changes.
  • Used GitHub to coordinate development and keep the team's code synchronized.

These are improvements to an existing project, rather than a platform built from scratch during CSC. The April video is a reference to the earlier version; it does not show which changes were completed during this hackathon.

How we built it

LANA uses HTML, CSS and JavaScript for the frontend, with PHP, Laravel and MySQL in the backend. GitHub supports version control and collaboration, and PayPal supports payment functionality. OpenAI API and Google Gemini API are integrated into the platform.

AI disclosure

Product AI: LANA integrates OpenAI API and Google Gemini API. Its AI behavior is configured and adapted around the platform's educational content and student-evaluation approach. During CSC, we continued testing and refining that behavior through experimentation. This describes application-level development; no particular model, dataset or model-training technique is claimed.

Development assistance: AI coding assistance helped the team during software development. The work was developed by the students with that assistance; AI is not presented as independently creating the project. Codex also assisted with drafting and organizing the English submission text.

The pre-existing LANA foundation is disclosed above, and the external technologies used are listed in Built with.

Challenges

A challenge was keeping the code up to date across all team members. We addressed this using GitHub to share and coordinate changes while continuing development on the existing platform.

What we learned

This work gave us practical experience with collaborative software development, maintaining and improving an existing system, testing changes and refining interfaces. The code-synchronization challenge highlighted the value of shared version control. Developing LANA also gave us experience integrating AI services and improving the application iteratively.

What's next

Proposed next steps are to document the CSC improvements in a new demonstration, gather appropriate feedback on the educational user experience and use that feedback to guide further development. These are future plans, not completed features or results.

Team and educational organization

The CSC team consists of Esam Haroun Abdullah Saleh, Mohammed Murad Yousef Abuhdaib and Osama Mohannad Ghazi AlDabbas.

The students train at Zaha Cultural Center in Jordan under the supervision of Mays Mohammad Ali Alkhalil. Zaha is acknowledged as their training and educational organization, not as their formal school. Mays is the supervisor, not a competing student team member.

This video predates CSC and documents the earlier foundation. It is retained as a historical reference/demo, not proof of the CSC-period improvements.
