Inspiration
Many people lack essential resources like food and medicine during the Corona crises. There are already approaches to help with this problem, but they require at least some technical knowledge (like installing an app, going to a website), that many of the elderly (one of the most vulnerable demographics) do not have.
What it does
We implemented a phone bot, where elderly people can call when they need something, e.g. food. On the other hand, volunteers can see on a map where something is needed. This way, even people who are not technically inclined can use modern technology to get help.

How we built it
We mainly used AWS technologies: AWS Connect, AWS Lex, AWS Lambda (Python), then React.js for the frontend, and Pelias for Geocoding.
Challenges we ran into
Voice recognition needs more work.
Accomplishments that we are proud of
Being able to get everything working end-to-end in only three days with three people
What we learned
We enjoyed learning new technologies like AWS Lex and AWS Connect.
What's next for LANA Covid Help
Improve Voice recognition, better UI
