Inspiration

The inspiration for this project is the large number of unfortunate kids that do not have access to food. This website helps spread information about Blessings in a Backpack - a nonprofit organization that helps provide food to kids with the help of donations from students and teachers around the world: link to official website.

What it does

We made the Blessings in a Backpack mission a part of ours and built this website so that our school's Blessings in a Backpack club can get more attention and subsequently more hands to help.

How we built it

Our website incorporates three main coding languages: HTML, CSS, and Javascript. We utilized HTML and CSS to create the Home Page and About Us pages, while Javascript was used to build the features of the Announcements, Login, and Calendar pages.

Challenges we ran into

75% of us are beginners and there was a lot of trouble coordinating the visual style to stay constant throughout the website - especially because this is a virtual event. However, with dedication and communication, we were able to overcome this challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we were able to finish most parts of the project in the span of 1 day. Also, we did not have much knowledge about Javascript but were able to build many complex features that depended on Javascript to operate.

What we learned

We gained a better understanding of the languages used and are happy with the first hackathon experience as we look eagerly to participating in more in the near future.

What's next for Lambert Blessings in a Backpack Website

We look to integrate the social media of the high school club and incorporate features that the club sponsor would like to see so that it may be used by students and volunteers alike to help the club and the mission.
