Lalo's Bolt Hackathon Showcase

Inspiration

My inspiration is driven by a deep passion for building and a relentless desire to explore the frontiers of AI and web development. After creating seven distinct projects for the Bolt Hackathon, I realized the most powerful story wasn't just in any single application, but in the collection as a whole. I was inspired to build an eighth project—a centralized showcase—to elegantly present the breadth and intensity of my work. This showcase itself is a testament to the power of rapid, AI-assisted development and my journey of sharing knowledge with the developer community.

What it does

Lalo's Bolt Hackathon Showcase is a comprehensive portfolio website that houses and presents all seven of my innovative projects submitted to the hackathon. It acts as a central hub where visitors can explore a diverse range of cutting-edge solutions, from AI-powered developer tools and educational platforms to a full-fledged open-source business compliance system. The showcase organizes these projects, provides key details on the technologies used, and links directly to live versions and code repositories, offering a complete overview of my technical capabilities and creative vision.

How we built it

This showcase, along with the seven projects it features, was built using a modern, high-velocity development stack, with Bolt at its core.

  • Frontend: The primary framework across all projects is React, allowing for dynamic and responsive user interfaces.
  • Backend & Database: Node.js and PostgreSQL were used for robust backend services, particularly for the GrowTrack compliance platform.
  • AI & Machine Learning: I integrated a wide array of cutting-edge AI technologies, including:
    • LLMs & APIs: OpenAI API, Ollama (for custom local models), Groq API (for high-speed inference), Qwen3-32B.
    • AI Services: ElevenLabs for voice synthesis, Tavus AI and Replica AI for creating interactive AI avatars.
    • Core Concepts: Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning to power features like argument analysis and custom model creation.
  • Platform: All projects were developed and accelerated using Bolt's innovative web development platform, which was instrumental in managing and deploying multiple applications under a tight deadline.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was sheer scope and time management. Juggling seven distinct, full-featured projects alongside my computer science studies at ASU was a marathon. Each project had its own unique technical hurdles, from fine-tuning LLM prompts with the Ollama Modelfile to integrating complex AI avatar services like Tavus. For the showcase itself, the primary challenge was architecting a clean, cohesive, and performant user experience that could effectively represent the diversity of the seven sub-projects without feeling cluttered. Consolidating everything under the wire for the hackathon deadline was the final boss battle.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm incredibly proud of the sheer volume and diversity of what was accomplished. Submitting seven functional, innovative projects is an achievement in itself, but capping it with an eighth project to tie them all together is something special. I'm particularly proud of:

  1. GrowTrack: Building and delivering a free, open-source cannabis compliance platform for California to solve a real-world business need.
  2. AI Diversity: Successfully integrating a wide spectrum of AI technologies, from mainstream APIs to self-hosted models and specialized avatar platforms.
  3. Productivity: Demonstrating the incredible acceleration that modern tools like Bolt provide, enabling a single developer to build and ship a massive portfolio of work in a short amount of time.

What we learned

This hackathon was a massive learning experience in high-speed, parallel development. I learned how to rapidly prototype, iterate, and deploy multiple full-stack applications simultaneously. It solidified my skills in integrating disparate AI services into singular, functional products. Most importantly, I learned the value of creating a narrative around my work; a project like the showcase is crucial for demonstrating capability and vision beyond just individual code repositories. It reinforced the lesson that how you present your work is just as important as the work itself.

What's next for Lalo's Bolt Hackathon Showcase

The showcase is now my living portfolio and will be the foundation for my future projects. The journey for the individual projects doesn't end here:

  • GrowTrack will continue to be developed as a robust, free, and open-source tool for the community.
  • The Ollama Model Creator and CodeStream will be refined based on user feedback.
  • The educational apps like Calculus.exe and Learn.exe will serve as the basis for more advanced AI-powered learning tools.

My ultimate goal is to continue pushing the boundaries of what's possible with AI and web development, and to share every step of that journey with the community on my YouTube channel and social platforms. This is just the beginning.
