Many students at LaGuardia Community College (LAGCC) feel unprepared when applying for internships or meeting with career advisors. We wanted to create a centralized tool that helps students build a strong resume, match with relevant internships, and prepare ahead—saving time and reducing stress.

LAGCC Career Assistant is a smart web app that allows students to: Upload their current resume and generate a clean, AI-enhanced version Input their GPA, experience, certifications, and interests to get matched with CUNY internships Receive improvement tips for low GPA and prep checklists before advisor appointments

We built the site using: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for the frontend functionality and responsive design A matching system powered by logic based on GPA and selected certifications Custom UI components like dropdown checkboxes and conditional rendering for user feedback All files and assets are managed locally for this prototype.

Designing a system that feels intelligent without using a backend or database Presenting match results in a clear, friendly, and dynamic wayThrough this project, we learned how to convert real-world internship eligibility criteria into frontend JavaScript logic that feels intuitive and dynamic. We also discovered the importance of simplifying UI/UX for students who may not be familiar with technical tools, and how crucial it is to balance visual design with functionality to ensure the tool remains accessible and useful for real users
