Inspiration
I was inspired by the "Women Empowerment" track. As a young woman myself, I am well aware of traditional gender roles. Fortunately, strong feminist movements have broken down many stereotypes and paved the way for more women entrepreneurs and innovators.
Unfortunately, women are still underrepresented in leadership positions. The higher up you go in the corporate ladder, the less women you'll see. A mere 5% of Fortune 500 CEOs are women.
What it does
Lady Lights aims to boost confidence in women and instill a leadership mindset in its users.
To do this, Lady Lights offers information on historical female figures who made a lasting impact on the world. Each figure includes a respective portrait, quick facts, and a QR code. Scanning the QR brings the user to an AR/VR representation of a relevant symbol for the historical figure (ex: an art gallery for Frida Kahlo).
Lady Lights also has a self-affirmation feature. Since speaking more confidently boosts your self-esteem, users can monitor how "weak" or "confident" their voice sounds. By making changes to the way you talk based off of the ML model's feedback, young women can learn to speak with conviction and improve their own assertiveness.
This feature also randomly generates quotes from female role models.
How we built it
I used Canva to create the art and Figma to create the original prototype.
Then, I created the front-end with HTML/CSS along with fonts from Google Fonts.
For back-end and ML functions, I used JavaScript & TensorFlow.
I used echoAR for extended reality and created custom 3D models with Paint 3D.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Lady Lights reached its goal of improving confidence in women! It provides a variety of different tools and resources for young women like me. I'm proud of my final product and its potential.
Outside of its practical uses, I'm pretty happy with the general UI of my website.
What's next for Lady Lights
I hope to add more historical figures and quotes to diversify the role models shown on the website.
