Inspiration

Lady Eboshi is a cinematic AI project inspired by the moral complexity and visual beauty of Princess Mononoke. The goal was to explore her untold story, from her youth as a captive to her rise as a leader, using modern generative tools to reimagine a legendary character through a new lens of empathy and strength.

What it does

The project recreates Lady Eboshi’s life in a hyperrealistic AI-generated trailer. It combines visual storytelling, cinematic composition, and historical authenticity to portray her evolution across different ages, from childhood to adulthood, highlighting the emotional and ethical conflicts that shaped her identity.

How we built it

Lady Eboshi was created using AI video and image generation tools such as Midjourney and Runway, with post-processing done in Photoshop and After Effects. Each frame was carefully designed with cinematic prompts, realistic lighting, and detailed textures to achieve film-level visual quality. The story and visual direction were developed through iterative scene planning and narrative alignment based on feudal Japanese aesthetics.

Challenges we ran into

Achieving a consistent visual identity across multiple AI models was a challenge. We also faced difficulties in controlling lighting and color tone when generating scenes set in different moods (fire, mist, night, and dawn). Maintaining historical accuracy while preserving the emotional tone of the original inspiration required extensive visual research.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to build a cohesive cinematic narrative entirely with generative AI, crafting a visually and emotionally powerful trailer that honors the legacy of the original story while standing as a unique creative reinterpretation.

What we learned

We learned how to integrate storytelling, AI image synthesis, and cinematic design into a single creative process. The project deepened our understanding of prompt engineering, narrative pacing, and how emotion can be translated through light, texture, and expression.

What’s next for Lady Eboshi

The next step is to expand the concept into a full short film combining AI-generated visuals, voice synthesis, and traditional animation techniques. The goal is to create a hybrid experience, a bridge between classic Japanese animation and the future of AI cinema.
