Inspiration

I was inspired by the absurd visual language of Soviet storytelling, the sincerity of 80s car commercials, and the surreal storytelling made possible by modern AI video tools. The idea was to create a parody that feels almost too real — a tribute to the mythical strength of the Russian family, with a twist ending no one sees coming.

What it does

This is a fully AI-generated SPEC commercial — including both the ad and behind-the-scenes footage — created using text-to-video technology (Veo2). It tells the story of two red-haired Russian men carrying a Soviet Lada through a flooded village, directed by an eccentric Italian filmmaker, all rendered with cinematic realism and no real-world footage.

How we built it

The entire project was made usingVeo2 text-to-video generator. I wrote detailed prompts for each shot, including camera movement, lighting, costume, character design, and background elements. The behind-the-scenes shots were generated with the same care, including technical rigs, Steadicam setups, dolly tracks, and production crews — all synthetically created via prompt engineering.

Challenges we ran into

Crafting believable behind-the-scenes footage was surprisingly difficult. Simulating cameras, rigs, cables, grip crew, and practical lighting in a way that looked authentic required extremely specific prompting. Maintaining visual continuity between the main ad and the BTS content also pushed AI to its current limits.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I created an entire commercial production — cast, crew, location, stunt, and story — without touching a real camera. The fact that the result feels absurd yet oddly professional is exactly the tone we were aiming for. Also: the pigs that crashes the set. Totally perfect.

What we learned

I learned that with the right prompting, AI video tools can now simulate not just narrative scenes, but the entire meta-reality of filmmaking — including fake BTS. Text-to-video is evolving beyond content generation into a form of self-aware storytelling.

What's next for Lada Commercial

I am working on a series of AI-generated commercials for fictional and real products, each more ridiculous than the last — all with full behind-the-scenes mockumentary footage. I also want to push AI further by experimenting with interactive story branches and synthetic dialogue scenes. And yes… more pigs.
