Lacquer Love&Lend

Description

A Rails App for lovers of nail polish who want to catalog, share, and loan lacquer collections.

Background

This web app was built by and for people who love nail lacquer. Lacquer Love&Lend allows users to organize and share their collection, discover their friends' lacquers, and coordinate lacquer loans.
This web app was created with two other team members.

Features

  • Utilized Nokogiri to scrape information from the OPI, Essie, Deborah Lippmann, and Butter London websites for polish color names, images, and the individual polish url for all the different collections on the site
  • Incorporated Javascript, JQuery, and Ajax to render unique dropdown menus and also provide users with a better experience when using the site
  • Leveraged Active Record to incorporate friendship models and transactions between users using logic to help determine if a lacquer is on loan, when it is due and if it is overdue, if a lacquer is available for loan, and if friendships are pending between users or if they are matched as friends
  • Used Facebook Authentication with OmniAuth for users to sign-in
  • Integrated Paperclip to allow users to upload their own photos for a more personal experience that gives users the opportunity to create a profile that is special to their personal wants and needs

Usage

Sign in through Facebook. Explore the brands and search for lacquers using the search options in the top navigation bar. Start organizing your lacquer collection and add your lacquer loving friends to your network. On your profile page you can add lacquers you own to your collection from our catalog of nearly 2,000 lacquers, or enter your own. Tag your lacquers with colors and finishes, and add your own pictures for easy filtering and picture options. Find your friends with the Find a Lacquer Lover search box in the top navigation bar. Invite friends with the click of a button from your profile page. Share your colors by marking lacquers 'loanable' to allow your friends to borrow them. View your friend's profiles to see their lacquers and request to borrow those that are available, and buy those that are not.
