The Myth of La Diablesse

Inspired by the potent Caribbean legends of La Diablesse, this short film pushes the boundaries of narrative storytelling using a hybrid production approach.

We used performances from local Caribbean actors to drive advanced AI tools, creating a unique visual experience for a timeless tale of supernatural justice. After two cocky neighborhood bullies ignore a mysterious woman’s warning about the local legend, their laughter turns to terror. They thought the old stories were a joke, but as the sound of a single, cloven hoof echoes on the empty basketball court, they realize they are about to face the terrifying price that La Diablesse demands from predators.

Issues we faced

While AI tools have come a long way, especially with character consistency, this project highlights the ongoing challenges when combining live-action performances with generative video. Using actors to drive specific, nuanced movements remains a demanding process, requiring significant technical effort to maintain that crucial link between a genuine performance and the final, stylized AI output. This film is an exciting, experimental step in bridging that gap.
