Inspiration ✨
La Cuentería was born from a simple yet powerful idea: what if children could become the characters of their own stories? What if the story itself could be an artifact to reinforce behaviors like giving up the pacifier or not biting their parents?
As a parent, I discovered that bedtime stories are not only entertaining, but also transmit values, emotions, and strengthen family bonds. This motivated me to create a platform that transforms photos of loved ones into illustrated storybook characters, turning each story into something unique and magical.
What it does 🎨
La Cuentería transforms photos into storybook characters and builds 8–12 page illustrated tales. Parents can define the story theme, relationships, values to transmit, and behaviors to reinforce. The result is a digital or physical book that both entertains and educates.
How we built it 🛠️
- Frontend: React + Tailwind, designed for an immersive and progressive user journey.
- Backend: Supabase (Postgres, Edge Functions, Storage) to manage stories, characters, and templates.
- AI Orchestration: GPT-OSS-120B (on Hyperstack VM) for specialized agents (Director, Storyteller, Art Prompter, Loader).
- Image Generation: OpenAI models with JSON-based prompts, combining artistic styles (watercolor, cartoon, expressive illustration).
- Workflow: Upload photos → transform into characters → define values & behaviors → AI generates narrative + art prompts → user selects style → optional dedication → assembled into a full illustrated story.
Challenges we ran into ⚡
- Performance vs Quality: Multi-agent orchestration delivered depth but with high latency (~10 min). We optimized to preserve magic without losing speed.
- Visual Consistency: Keeping characters coherent across all pages required careful prompt engineering and filtering.
- Pedagogical Alignment: Integrating values and emotional growth without breaking the narrative flow was a unique challenge.
- Scalability: Managing templates, versioning, and user-generated content pushed us to define DB restrictions and workflow conventions.
