Inspiration

A phone's camera roll turns into a graveyard of thousands of unsorted baby photos nobody ever looks at again. We wanted parents to have something they'd actually reread, and one day hand to their kid.

What it does

Kyou no Takaramono ("Today's Treasure") lets parents log simple records about their child — height, weight, a new milestone, a favorite thing, a "first time" moment, a note from mom or dad. The app then uses AI to turn any set of records into a beautifully designed keepsake in one of four styles:

  • Newspaper — a "family extra edition" front page
  • Storybook — a gentle, child's-eye-view story
  • Album — a stylish, photo-first moment card
  • Letter — a letter "to you, in the future" from mom and dad

How we built it

  • React Native + Expo (SDK 57) for the iOS app
  • Supabase for the database, anonymous auth (per-device identity, zero sign-up friction), and an Edge Function that calls an LLM to turn structured records into four distinct writing styles
  • RevenueCat for subscription management (3 free creations/month, unlimited with Pro)
  • Shipped to the App Store for iPhone and iPad

Challenges we ran into

Designing four genuinely distinct "voices" for the same underlying data — a newspaper editor, a picture-book narrator, a caption writer, and a parent writing a letter — so the AI output feels different every time, not just reformatted. We also shipped this end-to-end as a solo, non-technical founder, going from idea to a real App Store release.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A real app, live on the App Store, built and shipped end-to-end by a non-technical solo founder.

What we learned

How much design work goes into making AI output feel genuinely different across styles, instead of just re-templated text.

What's next for Kyou no Takaramono

More styles (a growth-chart style, a yearly recap), sharing creations directly to family group chats, and multi-language support.
