Inspiration
Kyodo is designed to tackle two prevalent issues in the workplace: verifying genuine employment experience and accommodating diverse payment preferences. In current platforms like LinkedIn, users can list any experience to their profile, making verification challenging. Additionally, standard payment procedures in companies often don't align with employees' preferences, especially regarding currency types and blockchain chains. For example, a company might pay exclusively in Polygon, whereas an employee prefers receiving payments in Avalanche
What it does
Kyodo addresses these problems innovatively. It creates a connection between the payments received, the skills utilized to earn that salary, and the employer. This ensures that the work experience listed is authentic. Notably, every salary received enhances the visibility of the associated skills, allowing employees to demonstrate to future employers the specific skills they were compensated for. Furthermore, it facilitates the automatic conversion of payments from the company's preferred blockchain to that of the employee's choice. This approach streamlines the payment process while ensuring an accurate and trustworthy record of professional skills and experience.
How we built it
The development of Kyodo involved crafting smart contracts using Solidity and deploying them across multiple blockchain networks supported by Chainlink CCIP, including Polygon zkEVM and Avalanche. The bridging of payments between different blockchains is accomplished using CCIP, and the tracking of payments, skills, and employers on all chains is managed through The Graph.
Challenges we ran into
Implementing CCIP presented significant challenges, particularly when executing instructions on the origin chain correctly. However, we faced problems on the target chain. Issues arose with tasks such as event emissions and token minting on the target chain, which did not execute as expected and provided no logs for troubleshooting. Assistance from Chainlink support was sought to resolve these complexities. Additionally, employing The Graph for transaction queries introduced further challenges. The platform's limited documentation made it difficult to utilize public functions effectively, and updating smart contracts across multiple blockchains necessitated repetitive query redeployments. Consequently, we had to limit some of The Graph's intended applications in our project, also because the support team was not responsive as we needed
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Using CCIP turned our product more simple and without the clutter of utilizing many bridges We are also proud of making the design and usability clear to users
What we learned
This hackathon was important to understand fully the usage of CCIP and made us to move fast to fully implement it. THe Graph issues when deploying queries in multiple chains is not practicable
What's next for Kyōdō Protocol
The future of Kyōdō Protocol is focused on enhancing the flexibility and utility of cryptocurrency payments for employees. We aim to introduce a suite of automated features that will allow employees to seamlessly convert their salaries into crypto. These features include:
*Automated Off-Ramp Solutions: * Employees will be able to automatically convert their crypto earnings into fiat currencies, providing greater flexibility in how they use their salaries.
** Prepaid Crypto Credit Cards: ** We plan to offer prepaid credit cards that are directly funded with cryptocurrency, enabling employees to make everyday purchases using their crypto earnings.
** Automatic Crypto Swaps: ** This feature will allow for the automatic exchange of one cryptocurrency for another, based on the employee's preferences or for optimizing investment strategies.
Additionally, we are exploring ways to leverage the connection between payments and skills to enhance employees' ability to substantiate their work experience. By directly linking skills to verified payment transactions, employees can provide tangible proof of their professional competencies, further enriching their professional profiles and credibility in the job market. Through these advancements, Kyōdō Protocol aims to revolutionize how employees receive and utilize their earnings, while also providing a robust platform for authenticating and showcasing their professional skills.
