Inspiration
Kahoot and other learning games. We saw how students lose focus, and we wanted a more engaging way to play. We were also inspired by all of our past teachers and professors and their efforts to make their class enjoyable.
What it does
Kwizard projects 4 objects from a phone camera in augmented reality to quiz students in a fun engaging way. We do this with a central server run by the educator, and students that run a game on their phones that all connect to play. Each student needs to look around the room for the answers to participate, keeping them on their toes as they compete with other students.
How we built it
It has 2 main parts: the webserver and the app. The app allows the students to use their cameras to explore their rooms in search of answers. The web server hosts the questions and allows the instructor to control the flow of the questions and to track the students and their answers.
Challenges we ran into
Using echo-AR was very difficult to use in Unity, especially because we never used these systems before. Creating a full website and API in a few hours was more difficult than we thought, but the AR system was ultimately the hardest part to understand.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made an AR game and a website at the same time! We have a full API and website for the instructor and a fun AR game for each of the students that is easy to use. We are also proud of the concept to engage students in a fun learning experience. We have never done this before so it was really satisfying to have anything work!
What we learned
Web development and game design were the main parts of our project. We had some experience in both fields, but this was a great learning experience. We also worked on art, APIs, presentational skills, and team management.
What's next for Kwizard
We plan on expanding available players and adding more questions. To make it closer to how it would be used, we need more questions, but the server was made in an easily scalable way. We would like to be able to help students and teachers around the world both teach and understand the content in an entertaining way.
