Inspiration

As a developer, I’ve worked on projects before, but this one is very special — it’s the first Android app I’ve developed and released entirely on my own. I’ve always been fascinated by how quizzes can spark curiosity and turn learning into an engaging experience. That inspiration pushed me to challenge myself: Can I design, build, and launch an app completely solo?

What it does

The app is a fun and interactive quiz platform where users can test their knowledge across different topics. It presents engaging multiple-choice questions, tracks progress, and encourages learning in a playful way. With a simple, clean design and smooth navigation in light mode, it delivers an enjoyable and easy-to-use experience for anyone who loves to learn through quizzes.

How we built it

I built the app entirely in Kotlin using Jetpack Compose for a modern, declarative UI. For data storage, I integrated Room Database to manage quiz questions and track progress. The app was designed to run in light mode for a clean and minimal user experience.

Since this is my first solo Android app, I handled everything end-to-end — from coding the UI and managing state, to structuring the database, testing features, and preparing the final build for release. I also set up AdMob integration and RevenueCat for monetization experiments, along with fixing Play Console warnings to ensure smooth deployment.

This project became a true learning ground, where I wore multiple hats: developer, designer, tester, and publisher — all in one.

Challenges we ran into

Since this was my first solo Android app, I faced several hurdles along the way: -End-to-end responsibility — handling everything alone, from design to release, without a team to lean on. -Debugging issues — fixing unexpected crashes and errors in Android Studio took patience and persistence. -Room Database setup — understanding relationships, migrations, and state management was tricky at first. -UI design with Jetpack Compose — learning how to structure modern UI while keeping it simple and functional. -Play Console warnings — figuring out how to resolve them so the app could be released smoothly. -Self-doubt — the fear of not finishing or making mistakes, which I had to overcome step by step.

Each of these challenges felt like a quiz question in itself — tough at first, but rewarding once solved.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built and released my first solo Android app — from idea to Play Store.
  • Designed a clean and simple UI completely with Jetpack Compose.
  • Successfully integrated Room Database to manage quiz data.
  • Overcame technical challenges and resolved Play Console warnings on my own.
  • Learned how to handle end-to-end app development — coding, testing, design, and publishing.
  • Most importantly, proved to myself that I can take an idea and bring it to life individually.

What we learned

  • How to take an app from concept to release completely solo.
  • Practical experience with Kotlin and Jetpack Compose for building modern Android UIs.
  • Using Room Database for data persistence and handling quiz logic.
  • The full process of publishing to the Play Store and resolving warnings.
  • Importance of designing for simplicity — keeping the app clean and user-friendly.
  • How to stay consistent, overcome self-doubt, and finish what I started.

What's next for Kwiz - Quiz and Trivia game

This is just the beginning. My vision for Kwiz is to make it more than just a fun quiz app — I want it to become a learning companion for students and aspirants.

  • I plan to extend the app by adding quizzes based on school syllabuses for grades 1 to 10, so students can learn and practice in an engaging way.
  • he goal is to make education feel less like memorization and more like play.
  • In the future, I also plan to include government exam preparation quizzes, so learners can test themselves and get ready for competitive exams in a simple, mobile-friendly format.

With each new step, Kwiz will grow from a quiz app into a powerful tool for both fun and learning.
