Inspiration

Cooking should feel comforting, not stressful.
The idea for Kursak: Cooking Tales came from that familiar moment: standing in front of a full fridge, yet feeling like there’s “nothing to eat.”

We were inspired by the warmth of traditional cookbooks, the calm storytelling of animated films, and the idea that technology should support daily rituals - not overwhelm them. We wanted cooking to feel like a gentle story you step into, not a problem you have to solve.

What it does

Kursak: Cooking Tales is an AI-powered recipe finder that turns the ingredients you already have into meaningful meals.

Users can:

  • Type what’s in their fridge
  • Discover matching or closely related recipes from cookbooks
  • Follow calm, story-like animated video instructions
  • Create smart grocery lists
  • Save favorite recipes for later

The goal is simple: less waste, less stress, more joy in cooking.

How we built it

We built Kursak with a focus on experience first, technology second.

  • An AI layer interprets natural language ingredient input
  • Recipes are matched semantically rather than by exact ingredients
  • A curated cookbook structure keeps results grounded and trustworthy
  • Animated, story-driven video guidance brings recipes to life
  • A mobile-first design ensures everything feels lightweight and calm

Every feature was designed to feel intentional, not noisy.

Challenges we ran into

  • Balancing AI and storytelling without turning the product into a tech demo
  • Handling real-world cooking, where ingredients are rarely exact
  • Designing video guidance that feels calm instead of instructional
  • Resisting feature creep under hackathon time pressure

Choosing what not to build was one of the hardest challenges.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Creating a cooking experience that feels emotional, not transactional
  • Blending AI with a warm, narrative-driven interface
  • Designing animated guidance that makes cooking feel peaceful
  • Shipping a cohesive product concept within hackathon constraints

Most importantly, Kursak feels human.

What we learned

  • Constraints improve creativity
  • Users respond deeply to calm, thoughtful design
  • Storytelling can be a product feature, not just marketing

Good technology disappears into the experience.

What's next for Kursak: Cooking Tales

  • Seasonal and cultural cookbook collections
  • Voice-guided, hands-free cooking mode
  • Community-shared cooking tales
  • Reducing food waste through smarter suggestions

Our vision is to make everyday cooking feel like a small, comforting ritual - one story at a time.
