According to Anecodotal, 30%-40% of agro inputs (seeds, fertilisers and pesticides) on the EastAfrican market are counterfeit. : (https://www.aecfafrica.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/AECF-Report-Mobilising-the-Private-Sector-in-the-fight-against-counterfeit-agro-inputs-mPedigree-Case-Study.pdf)

This not only affects the crop yields of the farmers but also harms the farmers health and endagers the environment.

Farmlink is developed a solution to solve exactly this through providing a platform that links farmers to verified authentic suppliers of genuine Agricultural inputs.

For the Farmers, we have built a USSD-Technology based interface where farmers can seamlessly purchase Agro inputs from a curated list of verfied suppliers. To the Suppliers, we are providing an onchain registry in form of smart contract where all fields that authorize a suppliers to be a legal, authentic and verified supplier by the government entities are stored. A second smart contract that mints a dynamic NFT for the supplier which accrues value as long as the supplier remains compliant supplier of genuine agricultural inputs is minted for the supplier to use in other endavours such as bidding and so on. For us as the FarmLink platform, We keep a continuos interaction with the farmer to ensure whether these agro inputs work as expected, as well as using this data to make data driven decisions and advice to the farmers.

Bringing all these components together is a challenge and some decisions at the low level are always under discussions such as whether we should set up an appchain or just deploy specific functionality smart contracts.
