Inspiration

akori was born from a quiet frustration: too many small business owners were recording their numbers but not their narratives. Vendors, freelancers, and student entrepreneurs across Nigeria were tracking sales without knowing what those numbers meant for tomorrow. àkòrí began as a way to turn data into direction to make understanding your business feel conversational, not complicated.

What it does

akori is an intelligent decision-support system that transforms everyday financial data into insight and confidence. Through a chat-based interface, users can ask real questions “Can I restock now?”, “Is it wise to take this loan?” and receive transparent, explainable recommendations. Every response comes with reasoning, a Financial Health Score, and short learning guides that turn each decision into a lesson.

How we built it

akori was built where clarity meets computation:

Frontend: Next.js and TailwindCSS for smooth, responsive interaction. Backend: Supabase (Postgres + Edge Functions) for security and real-time performance. Decision Engine: Modular, rule-based logic designed to scale into AI-driven intelligence. Intent Parser: Gemini 2.5 Flash for translating natural language into structured financial intents. Hosting: Vercel for reliability and global delivery.

Challenges we ran into

Each constraint taught us something vital:

Incomplete Data: Many small businesses operate on instinct; àkòrí had to make sense of limited inputs. Human Understanding: Explaining financial reasoning without jargon required empathy, not just logic. Credibility: We learned that users trust transparency — every suggestion must explain its “why.”

We built something that speaks human in a space that often speaks numbers. àkòrí’s tone is calm, its visuals are deliberate, and its logic is transparent. It gives small business owners a way to think clearly, not just calculate.

What we learned

What’s next for àkòrí

We’re moving toward deeper automation syncing with mobile money and bank systems to turn passive records into live intelligence. Soon, àkòrí will adapt to each business’s rhythm, offering personalized insights that evolve over time. The vision is simple: make àkòrí the quiet, reliable companion every entrepreneur can think with.
