FutureForward

Inspiration

Our inspiration for FutureForward stemmed from the realisation that many students struggle to navigate the myriad of undergraduate options available to them after high school. We wanted to create a solution that would simplify this process and provide personalised guidance to students based on their individual interests and goals.

What it does

FutureForward is an app designed to assist students in selecting the ideal undergraduate path. Users input their passions and preferred majors, and the app generates tailored recommendations for undergraduate options worldwide. Additionally, users can specify their country preference to receive recommendations for colleges in their desired location. The app also features a chatbot to address any doubts or questions users may have.

How we built it

We built FutureForward using PartyRock.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was experimenting with different language models (LLMs) and prompts to generate personalised recommendations effectively. Additionally, fine-tuning the prompts used to query the LLMs proved to be crucial in generating accurate and relevant recommendations. We experimented with different prompt structures, input formats, and parameters to optimize the quality of the responses generated by the LLMs.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud to have created an app that streamlines the process of selecting an undergraduate path for students worldwide. Our personalised recommendations and intuitive user interface make it easier for students to make informed decisions about their academic future. Additionally, the integration of a chatbot adds an extra layer of support for users seeking guidance.

What we learned

Throughout the development process, we learned valuable lessons about prompt engineering, importance of temperature and top P in LLMs. We also gained insights into the challenges that students face when choosing an undergraduate path and the various factors that influence their decisions.

What's next for FutureForward

In the future, we plan to further refine and expand FutureForward to provide even more comprehensive guidance to students. This includes integrating additional features such as virtual campus tours, alumni testimonials, and internship opportunities. We also aim to enhance the chatbot functionality to provide more personalised and interactive support for users.
