Inspiration: I am in the 11th grade and it is genuinely the most stressful grade I've ever bee in and to an extent I felt like I was drowning all because my time wasn't managed properly. The worst part is that a time table isn't enough cause a timetable will never be optimized so I built Kronos to fill that gap and actually help other high schoolers and potentially college students like me.
What it does: So basically Kronos is an AI tool mixed with a time management app which is basically arranging all your activities. Users of the app can literally add activities for their day and the AI reroutes it to reasonable time for that specific task and also assigning a realistic time frame for each of this task. It also assigns focus modes on extremely difficult tasks and that boost productivity by an estimated 65 percent instead of just using google calendar. In a nut shell Kronos lets you add tasks, update tasks, add a goal that all your timing ties up to, schedule activities, replanning your day, adding recurring tasks, plan your week and lighten up your packed day.
How we built it: I built Kronos in VS Code, working with Claude Opus 5. I laid the skeleton first: the four-layer structure, the data model, the scoring rules, and the decision that the engine would never be allowed to call the network. Claude expanded that skeleton into working code. The real work was prompt engineering — directing it file by file, holding the whole architecture in my head, and deciding what each layer was allowed to know. Every design decision in Kronos is one I made and then briefed. The code is what came out of that loop. It was basically built with: Plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript. No framework, no bundler, no dependencies. A shell script inlines everything into one file you can open from a phone with a bad connection.
Challenges we ran into: This was a rollercoaster. I ran out of Claude Code tokens partway through the build, which forced me into shorter, better-aimed sessions — fewer, sharper prompts instead of long open-ended ones. I am a student full time, so most days gave nine hours to school before I could even touch my code, and the project was built in the hours on either side of that. Getting an API key to power it was a challenge of its own, and it changed the product: Kronos now runs another way, either on my own Claude account with no key at all from you and only my key.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: I am extremely proud of the fact I was able to complete my project on time and meeting up with the deadline. I am also extremely proud of the fact that the AI is actually sensitive about your tasks by analyzing the amount of time necessary for each task and it also analyzes the importance of each tasks and assigns focus periods to it. I am so proud of the fact that I was able to build a productivity and time management partners and this alone makes me fulfilled about my project. I am also extremely proud of the fact that it gets better alongside you meaning as it gets to know you better over a week or so it can make better decisions.
What we learned: I learned a whole lot of things like creatively creating shorter more specific prompts to actually making the best out of my tokens. I also learnt how to combine an AI with something that works a bit well to actually something that is near perfect and actually something that works well.
What's next for Kronos: For Kronos there are plans in the future to incorporate a back end, potential payments involved and a situation were Kronos can pay attention to things around you when permitted and log tasks that you end up forgetting.
