Inspiration
I grew up watching my parents carry agricultural produce to local markets to sell. Many times, I went with my mother and saw how she had to visit multiple shops just to get a reasonable price. The process was physically exhausting and mentally frustrating. Despite the produce being of good quality, buyers often offered prices below the actual market value or deducted commissions. Farmers usually accepted these deals because they lacked price information and direct access to buyers. Over time, I realized that the real issue was not effort or quality, but the absence of transparency and direct communication. This repeated experience made me believe that this problem needed a practical solution.
What it does
KrishiSahayak is a platform that connects farmers directly with local buyers. Farmers can list their produce and view current market price guidance, while buyers can discover nearby sellers and contact them directly. This removes unnecessary middlemen and enables fair, informed transactions.
How we built it
The project was built with a focus on simplicity and accessibility. The core idea was to keep the platform lightweight—allowing farmers to list products easily and buyers to connect without complex workflows. Market price data is used as guidance rather than enforcement to ensure farmers retain control over pricing.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge was designing a system that works for users with limited digital experience. Another challenge was avoiding over-engineering features like logistics or payments, which could reduce usability instead of improving it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully created a transparent and farmer-centric solution that prioritizes fairness and ease of use. The project directly addresses a real-world problem observed firsthand, rather than a theoretical use case.
What we learned
We learned that meaningful solutions for rural problems must be simple, trustworthy, and grounded in real experiences. Technology should reduce dependency and effort, not add complexity.
What's next for KrishiSahayak
In the future, we aim to expand price data coverage, improve regional discovery, and add language support to make the platform more accessible to farmers across different regions.
