Inspiration

Indian farmers often face crop losses due to unpredictable weather. We wanted to create a simple, reliable, and localized weather forecast solution to support smarter farming.

What it does

KrishiMitra provides real-time weather updates and a 3-day forecast, helping farmers plan activities like sowing, irrigation, harvesting, and pesticide use. It supports GPS and manual location input.

How we built it

We used Kotlin with Jetpack Compose for the frontend, and Retrofit with Gson to fetch weather data from WeatherAPI. The app is designed with a clean and intuitive UI for rural accessibility.

Challenges we ran into

Parsing complex JSON responses from WeatherAPI Managing GPS permissions and fallback for manual location UI consistency across diverse devices

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Seamless integration of live weather data Accurate and location-specific forecasts Simple UI tailored for rural users

What we learned

We learned to handle APIs with Retrofit, work with Compose for UI, and design apps with accessibility in mind, especially for non-tech-savvy users.

What's next for Krishimitra

We plan to add: Multilingual support AI-based crop suggestions Offline forecast caching Community-based farming tips
