Problem Statement 🤔

Indian farmers incur Rs 92,651 crore per year in post-harvest losses, the primary causes of which are poor storage and transportation facilities. Because of the inadequate transport system, most of the farmers find it impossible to sell their products within the required time limits and in the places where market prices are the most attractive.

Poor storage conditions also bring about losses caused by the combined action of insects, rodents, and other pests. Due to this, Farmer is obliged to sell his produce immediately after the harvest, thus becoming unable to profit from market prices when they are at their best. Finally, in addition to these factors, there are others that are also responsible for post-harvest losses, such as, marketing practices, sectoral policies, and other socio-economic aspects. The consequences of these situations often go beyond individual losses of money: they affect production and the entire national economy.

Our Solution 🙌

We are providing the solutions in the form of a “seller-heavy” application that gives the chance to the farmer to digitize from the reach of his comfort zone. the farmer can use our application in their own preferred language, choose an optimum price for his harvest to maximize their profit. They can also get info about the storage facilities available within their locality along with the transportation facility provided through our app.

Price Recommendation: A crop sale and purchase platform where the producers will be able to fix the price of their product as per their own wish. The innovative feature that we are adding here is that while adding their product, they will get recommendations from the system about how much price the other sellers are fixing for the same product, in the form of minimum to maximum range using Amazon Personalize.
Platform navigation: On our platform, we aim to work upon the “ease of use” factor of the platform. Platform navigation will be a piece of cake for even a naive internet user. On the landing page, we will provide the option to choose among widely spoken languages in India. So for the subsequent pages, there will be audio available in the chosen language describing the content of the current page using Amazon Polly.
Transportation and storage connectivity: In India, many farmers do not grow some very profitable crops because they are unable to find the required storage and transportation. Our application will act as a third-party platform that shows the list of all the storage facilities available nearby and help farmers to connect with the suitable transportation facility making use of the Amazon Location Services.

The implementation of the entire project helped us realize the importance of collaboration and the dynamics of working in a team. We are very excited to come out with this solution that would be so useful for the farmers.

Challenges we ran into

Understanding how to find and integrate data of all the storage facilities available in a given - geographical area.
Making this platform easily accessible by every farmer.
To make the farmer believe that this application will be more profitable to them than the traditional practices they follow in terms of capital, luxury, and reliability.

What's next for Krishi-Raksha

We would like to add the chat and video calling feature which will allow suppliers and consumers to communicate directly through the website and not rely on email/telephone.
We can add the feature of summarising a document in which we will provide the summary of the long legal document in their local languages along with the audio support so that farmers can easily understand it.
We can expand this application to subsidiary farming like sericulture, dairy, fisheries, etc in order to generate more profit for people involved and for the government as well.
