Inspiration

145 million+ farmers in India lack access to expert agricultural advice. 52% face crop losses due to late disease detection, and 30% lose revenue from poor market timing. We built KRISHI-AI to put the power of Google Gemini AI directly into every farmer's hands.

What it does

KRISHI-AI is an AI-powered agricultural intelligence platform with 5 integrated tools:

  • Crop Doctor — Upload a crop photo and Gemini Vision AI identifies diseases, provides confidence scores, and recommends organic + chemical treatments
  • Krishi Guru — Multilingual AI chat assistant (Tamil, Hindi, English) for any farming question
  • Market Intelligence — Real-time crop prices across Tamil Nadu markets with AI-powered demand forecasts and selling recommendations
  • Soil Analyzer — Input soil parameters (pH, N, P, K, moisture) and get AI-ranked crop suitability and fertilizer recommendations
  • Weather Advisory — Current weather conditions combined with Gemini AI farming recommendations

How we built it

  • Frontend: React 19 + TypeScript + Tailwind CSS v3 + shadcn/ui
  • AI Engine: Google Gemini API (Vision + Pro models)
  • Animations: Framer Motion + GSAP for rich interactions
  • Charts: Chart.js for market price visualizations
  • Design: Custom earthy color palette (sage green, warm amber, soil brown) — not generic tech-blue

Challenges we ran into

  • Making Gemini Vision reliably parse crop disease images and return structured JSON diagnoses
  • Building a truly multilingual chat that handles Tamil script rendering correctly
  • Designing a UI that feels warm and trustworthy for non-tech-savvy farmers

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • 5 distinct Gemini AI integrations in one cohesive platform
  • Beautiful, non-generic agricultural UI with Framer Motion animations throughout
  • Fully working multilingual support with Tamil, Hindi, and English

What we learned

  • Gemini's vision capabilities are remarkably accurate for agricultural disease detection
  • Designing for accessibility and non-English speakers requires deep cultural understanding
  • A warm, earthy design dramatically increases trust among farmer user groups

What's next for KRISHI-AI

  • Voice input for farmers who can't type
  • WhatsApp integration for broader reach
  • Offline mode with downloaded AI models
  • IoT sensor support for automated soil and weather data collection
