Inspiration
It all began when one of us felt a craving for something sweet. "What sweet thing do I really want to eat?" he thought. A google or yelp search wouldn't help him there - complex recipes and fancy restaurants come up as results. "I know! I'll make an app to find what I'm craving" he said, and then he went on a journey.
What it does
The user can create their own personal profile listing their allergies and food preferences (such as being vegan, vegetarian, etc). Then, they can use the main function of the app - search for foods according to their cravings using key words such as "creamy" or "salty". The app automatically generates foods according to the time - if you're hungry during breakfast time it'll give you breakfast foods instead of dinner foods. When you click on something that you're debating eating, an image of the food, a description and three buttons that are links for more information appears. The three links are (1) a recipe button to search for recipes on google, (2) a restaurants button to search for restaurants on yelp and (3) a description button that looks for a more in-depth description on wiki.
How we built it
We created a wonderful Android app utilizing Java. We also utilized Alexa by asking her to respond to the user using our app when the user wants Alexa to find them what they're craving.
Challenges we ran into
Learning how to properly develop Android apps and Alexa capabilities.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully learning how to feed responses and commands into Alexa, and of course creating a fun app that'll help us.
