Inspiration
I build solo apps fast using AI coding tools. But after every deploy, I had to manually click through everything to find bugs. No affordable QA tool existed for solo developers. So I built one.
What it does
Krato tests both apps and websites like a real user. Give it a live URL, and it:
- Scans buttons, links, forms, and inputs
- Catches console errors and broken network requests
- Uses AI to explain every issue in plain English
- Saves results with severity scores (critical/medium/low)
- Exports reports as PDF
How we built it
Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Supabase. Playwright for browser automation. Groq API (Llama 3.3 70B) for AI analysis. Deployed on Vercel.
Challenges we ran into
Playwright doesn't run out of the box on serverless platforms. Had to use @sparticuz/chromium to make it work on Vercel. Also hit a Turbopack bundling bug that took time to debug.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Built and shipped a working product solo in under a week. Already caught real bugs on live production sites. 50+ developers have tried it.
What we learned
Solo developers genuinely have no affordable QA option, this is a real gap. Serverless environments have hidden constraints that don't show up locally.
What's next for Krato
Multi-page crawling, GitHub integration for automatic re-scans, and a paid tier for unlimited scans.
