Inspiration
I was inspired by the Pokémon GBA games that I used to play on my phone; the engaging storyline, amusing puzzles, and the large maps, all for a few kilobytes, made it more exhilarating.
What it does
This is a simple and fun game of the main character solving puzzles to defeat the unknown existence threatening the kingdom by solving puzzles that were set by a futuristic robot that is from the same timeline as the main character, who got transmigrated into this world.
How I built it
I used free sprites/ tilesets and made the map in "Tiled 2D sprite editor", then imported it into the Maki tile map editor to add collision mechanics and use it for my game, since Maki had a different type of JSON files than the usually used ones. As for the coding part, I got some help from LLMs and used the documentation to learn.
Challenges we ran into
Building the map was a huge challenge, since the map editor of Maki was too simple and focused, but this limited my features, and tbh it was kinda glitchy, making me redo my map several times. Also, when I imported a large tilesheet to build my map, the editor was completely unhelpful.
Accomplishments that I am proud of
I am happy to make my first-ever 2D pixel game with the new framework
What we learned
I learnt more about pixel UI and the Maki framework in detail.
What's next for Kratis
Making it more of a fun and long-lasting game rather than a short game
