Inspiration
We spend a lot of time on Facebook these days, so why not use it to relay information of local events, to keep people in touch with the university life around them.
What it does
If you ask Kosbot about various events on campus, he will communicate with you, and tell you of things that are going on around campus. In addition, he can recommend dining locations, crack jokes, and give you math problems! Finally, you can just have a conversation with him if you'd like. He's usually friendly :).
How we built it
We used the Facebook messenger API, and developed the Kosbot to work entirely in conjunction with Facebook's messenger. The website responsible for running the bot was written in python using the django framework.
Challenges we ran into
The initial setup of the webpage was a big obstacle for us, and creating a proper web scraper took time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Making the information Kosbot provides legible. Also creating a valid callback url for the creation of the Facebook app.
What we learned
How to use django and how to set up apps using the messenger API.
What's next for Kosbot
We want implement more interactions, and more information that he can provide you with.
