Inspiration

I’ve always loved philosophy—the way a single idea can shift how you see life. Yet reading the classics can feel distant and academic. Kora was born from a desire to make timeless wisdom alive and accessible: daily quotes to spark reflection and real conversations with the philosophers themselves.

What it does

Kora delivers a daily spark of wisdom and lets you voice chat with philosophers like Socrates, Marcus Aurelius, and Plato. You can ask questions, debate ideas, or even submit essays for AI-powered critique—bringing ancient thought into modern conversation.

How we built it

• Frontend: Bravo Studio for a fully native iOS/Android app designed directly in Figma.
• Backend: Xano for database and API logic.
• AI: OpenAI GPT-4o for natural, context-rich dialogues.
• Voice: Hume AI for expressive, human-like voices.
• Subscriptions: RevenueCat for paywalls and premium features.

Challenges we ran into

• Crafting prompts that feel authentic to each philosopher while staying accurate and engaging.
• Balancing real-time voice responses with performance and cost.
• Designing a UI that makes deep, complex conversations approachable on a small screen.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

• Achieving natural, near real-time voice conversations with AI philosophers.
• Seamlessly integrating multiple no-code tools to create a polished, cross-platform app in a short timeframe.
• Bringing an ancient subject into an interactive, daily experience that feels modern and fun.

What we learned

We learned how to blend design, no-code development, and advanced AI into a cohesive product. Fine-tuning GPT prompts and voice synthesis to feel alive while remaining reliable taught us a lot about AI personality design and latency optimization.

We also discovered that some people are skeptical about AI representing real historical figures, which pushed us to be transparent about the technology and emphasize that these conversations are creative interpretations, not exact reproductions.

What's next for Kora – Voice chat with philosophers & daily wisdom

We’re now testing Kora with philosophy students to refine the experience and gather feedback. One key insight has been strong interest in multilingual support, especially Spanish, which we plan to explore next along with adding more philosophers and richer daily content.
